Wisdom Teeth, Removed The Way Surgeons Remove Them.

Wisdom teeth have a talent for terrible timing — the ache that starts before finals week, the gum flap that flares up on a Friday night, the impaction your dentist has been 'watching' for three years. When one finally demands attention, you want two things: someone who does surgical extractions constantly, and a real answer to whether the other three need to come out too.

People rarely come here alone, and they do not have to.

That's what this page is. We're an implant surgery center, which means difficult extractions are the first step of most days here — including the impacted, broken, and half-finished cases other offices refer to Dr. Jain. Every wisdom tooth case starts with a free 3D CBCT scan that shows the tooth, the jaw nerve, and the sinus in three dimensions, so the plan is decided before the appointment, not improvised during it.

And if the scan says your wisdom teeth can stay? We'll tell you that too — some genuinely should, and our article on keeping wisdom teeth explains when. Bring the ache, get the scan, and leave with a per-tooth plan in writing at your free consultation.

The Difficult Ones Are The Ones We're Built For

Built For The Difficult Ones

Plenty of offices remove easy wisdom teeth. The distance between an easy tooth and a hard one, though, is where you actually choose your provider: a lower third molar wrapped near the inferior alveolar nerve, an upper one sitting against the sinus floor, a tooth so tilted it has to come out in sections. Those cases are won in planning — which is why every surgical case here starts on a CBCT scan that maps the nerve canal and sinus in three dimensions instead of guessing from a flat X-ray.

The other half of a calm extraction is the team around it. Our in-house IV sedation service — the same crew that sedates full-arch implant surgeries — means you can sleep through the procedure and wake up with the hard part finished. Dr. Sam Jain and Dr. Arpana Gupta have run this surgical practice at the same Fremont address since 2008, and the referred disasters land on their bench: incomplete extractions, roots left behind, teeth displaced toward the sinus. When that's the daily standard, routine wisdom teeth are exactly that — routine.

Afterward, you're not handed a hotline. Aftercare instructions come in writing, our recovery guide covers the first week in detail, and if anything feels wrong you call the Fremont office that performed the extraction.

Wisdom Teeth Coming Out? Here Is What To Expect

Do all four wisdom teeth actually need to come out?

No — and an office that says yes before looking at a 3D scan is reciting a policy, not a diagnosis. A wisdom tooth that's fully erupted, cleanable, and biting against a partner tooth can often stay for life. The ones that need to go are the troublemakers: impacted teeth pressing on the neighbor's roots, partially erupted teeth that trap infection under a gum flap, and teeth with decay you physically can't reach with a brush. Your free CBCT scan shows all of this precisely — including which teeth to remove and, just as honestly, which to leave alone.

What makes an extraction 'surgical,' and does mine need to be?

A simple extraction removes a tooth that's fully visible above the gum. A surgical extraction handles everything else — teeth still under the gum, tilted sideways into the neighbor, or fused tightly to bone — by opening the gum, sometimes sectioning the tooth, and removing it in controlled pieces. Lower wisdom teeth near the jaw nerve and upper teeth near the sinus are exactly why we plan on a 3D CBCT rather than a flat X-ray: the scan shows the nerve and sinus in three dimensions, so the whole surgical route is settled before the first instrument is picked up.

Can I be asleep for my wisdom teeth removal?

Yes. We run a fully equipped in-house IV sedation service — the same team that sedates our full-arch implant surgeries — along with oral sedation and nitrous for lighter cases. With IV sedation most patients remember nothing between the countdown and the recovery room. If dental anxiety is the reason you've postponed this for years, say so at the consultation; sedation planning is a routine part of how we schedule, not an add-on we discourage.

Why would I have wisdom teeth removed at an implant center?

Because difficult extractions are our daily work, not an occasional event. Removing failing teeth — including impacted thirds, broken-off roots, and the extractions other offices start and can't finish — is the first step of nearly every implant case we treat, which means the surgical volume, the 3D imaging, the IV sedation team, and the surgeon skill are together at our Fremont center. Dr. Jain personally takes the referrals other dentists send when an extraction goes sideways: teeth pushed toward the sinus, incomplete removals, complex impactions. You simply get that same surgical bench, applied to your wisdom teeth.

What does wisdom tooth removal cost, and does insurance help?

It depends on how the tooth is positioned — a fully erupted tooth is a simpler job than a deeply impacted one, and sedation choice changes the total too. Rather than quote a teaser number that grows later, we do it the same way we price everything: a free consultation with a free 3D CBCT scan, then an itemized written quote per tooth before anything is scheduled. Wisdom tooth extractions are commonly covered in part by PPO dental insurance; we're in-network with many PPO plans and file the claims paperwork for you.

How long is recovery, and what should I expect afterward?

Most people are back to work or school in two to four days, with swelling peaking around day two or three and fading through the week. Lower surgical extractions take a little longer than uppers as a rule. You'll leave with written aftercare instructions, and our full recovery guide — from the first 24 hours through the do-not-use-a-straw rule — is in our wisdom teeth recovery guide. The short version: follow the instructions, keep the clot where it belongs, and call us directly if anything feels wrong. You call our office, not an answering service.
