Does dental insurance cover dental implants?
Many PPO dental plans cover part of implant treatment — often the crown, an extraction, or a portion of the implant itself — but almost never the whole thing, because most plans cap what they pay per year (a yearly maximum, commonly around $1,000 to $2,000). So the realistic picture is partial coverage from insurance, with financing covering the balance. We verify your exact benefits before you commit and file the claim for you to capture every dollar you're owed.
Does Delta Dental (or Aetna, Cigna, MetLife) cover implants?
We're in-network with Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California and several others. Whether your specific plan covers implants — and how much — depends on your individual policy, its annual maximum, and any waiting periods. That's why we check your actual benefits at your free consultation rather than guessing from the carrier name.
What is an annual maximum, and why does it matter for implants?
Your annual maximum is the most your dental plan will pay toward your care in a single benefit year — often $1,000 to $2,000. Because implant treatment usually costs more than that cap, insurance typically covers a portion and you handle the rest, frequently through financing. It is worth knowing how common that wall is: in a 2025 national survey by the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, 46% of adults who reached their plan's annual maximum said it stopped them seeking further treatment. Knowing the number in advance is what keeps it from deciding for you. One practical tip we'll walk you through: for larger cases, sometimes staging treatment across two benefit years lets you use two annual maximums.
What if you're out of network with my plan?
We also work with out-of-network PPO benefits, and we file the claim either way. Many PPO plans still reimburse a meaningful share of out-of-network care, so it's worth letting us verify what your plan actually pays before you assume it won't help.
Does medical insurance ever cover implants?
Occasionally. When tooth loss or jaw reconstruction is tied to trauma, a medical condition, or a documented medical necessity, portions of treatment may qualify under medical rather than dental insurance. It's plan-specific and not the norm, but we'll help you explore whether it applies to your situation.
