Dental Fear Is Real — And Fixable It's Also Optional Now.

Somewhere in your history there's probably a reason: a rough extraction decades ago, a dentist who didn't wait for the numbness, a childhood memory with a drill in it. Fear like that doesn't argue with logic — it just quietly cancels appointments, year after year, while small problems grow into big ones.

A patient smiling in the treatment chair
Comfort is planned before the appointment, not improvised during it.

Sedation dentistry changes that. From a calming pill to full IV ‘twilight’ sedation, we can meet you wherever you are — from simply relaxed to fully at ease and remembering little afterward — administered on-site by your own ACLS-certified doctors — led by Dr. Sam Jain, IV-sedation trained at the Medical College of Georgia, not by a traveling anesthesia service you’ll never see again.

The reaction we hear most often afterward is some version of disbelief — that the thing they dreaded for years was over before they expected it to begin, with little or nothing remembered. For many patients, that first sedated visit is what finally ends the avoidance.

Three Levels, One Honest Fit

Sedation isn't one-size-fits-all. Here's the straight datasheet on each level — what it is, how it feels, and who it's built for.

Doctor talking a patient through treatment chairside

01 / Numb, aware, in control

Local Anesthesia

What it is
Precise numbing of the treatment area only — the foundation of every procedure we do, sedated or not.
How it feels
You feel pressure and movement rather than sharp pain. You're fully awake, chatting if you like, and you drive yourself home afterward.
Built for
Patients comfortable in the chair, single implants, and shorter visits. Many people are surprised it's all they need.
Patient arriving relaxed for a dental appointment

02 / The edge, taken off

Oral Sedation

What it is
A prescribed calming medication taken before your visit, layered on top of complete local numbing.
How it feels
Deeply relaxed and pleasantly indifferent — awake, but the white-knuckle grip on the armrest never happens. Memories of the visit go soft at the edges.
Built for
Moderate anxiety, sensitive gag reflexes, and anyone who wants calm without an IV. A companion drives you home.
A patient under IV sedation with the surgical team monitoring throughout

03 / Twilight — the deepest option here

IV Sedation

What it is
Medication delivered intravenously and adjusted moment to moment by the doctor — the deepest level of sedation we offer, with continuous monitoring from start to recovery.
How it feels
Like the appointment happened to someone else. You breathe on your own and can respond if asked, but time collapses and little to nothing is remembered.
Built for
Significant dental fear, long or complex procedures, full-arch cases, and everyone who has ever said 'just knock me out and fix it.'

The Safety Résumé Behind Your Calm

Sedation is only as safe as the training in the room. Here's exactly what stands behind yours — verifiable, not vague.

Formal Sedation Training

  • IV Sedation training — Medical College of Georgia

Completed by Dr. Sam Jain, who administers and supervises sedation on-site.

  • Sedation delivered by the treating doctors — never outsourced to a rotating service

Emergency Preparedness

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) — American Heart Association

Held by both Dr. Jain and Dr. Gupta.

  • Emergency Airway Management training
  • Basic and Advanced 12-lead EKG interpretation coursework
  • Continuous monitoring for every sedated patient, start to recovery

Sedation suitability is confirmed through a medical history review at your free consultation; you'll receive personalized pre- and post-visit instructions. Patients receiving oral or IV sedation must arrange a ride home.

Will I Feel Anything? And Everything Else You Want To Ask

Is IV sedation safe?

In trained hands, remarkably so — and training is the whole story. Dr. Sam Jain completed formal IV sedation training at the Medical College of Georgia, and both doctors hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association, with additional coursework in emergency airway management and basic and advanced 12-lead EKG interpretation — all listed on our verified credentials page. You're continuously monitored throughout treatment, and the person watching those monitors is a doctor equipped for far more than dentistry ever requires.

Will I be completely unconscious?

No — and that's by design. IV sedation produces a deeply relaxed, drowsy 'twilight' state: you can still breathe on your own and respond to simple requests, but time compresses and most patients remember little to nothing afterward. For most patients, the visit seems to pass in a moment — they remember settling into the chair, and the next clear memory is that it was already done.

Which sedation level is right for me?

It depends on your anxiety, your health history, and the length of the procedure. Local anesthesia alone suits patients who are comfortable in the chair. Oral sedation — a prescribed pill beforehand — takes the edge off moderate nerves. IV sedation is the choice for significant anxiety, strong gag reflexes, long or complex visits, or anyone who simply prefers to be elsewhere mentally. The doctors will review your history and recommend honestly at your free consultation; the decision stays yours.

Do I need someone to drive me home?

For oral and IV sedation, yes — plan on a trusted adult to accompany you home, and take the rest of the day off from driving, work decisions, and anything requiring sharp judgment. With local anesthesia alone, you can drive yourself. You'll receive exact, personalized instructions — including eating and medication guidance — well before your appointment, so nothing about the day is a surprise.

I've avoided the dentist for years because of fear. Will anyone lecture me?

No. So many of our implant patients arrive carrying years of avoidance and a story about a dentist who hurt them once. You will not be scolded here — you'll be met where you are, sedated if you choose, and treated gently, with no lecture at any point. Fear kept you from care long enough; our job is making sure it never does again. If you'd like to see whether implants are even an option first, start with the candidacy page — no appointment required.

Can I choose to stay awake for implant surgery?

Absolutely — and if you're calm without sedation, that's genuinely fine with us; a relaxed, awake patient makes the work easier, not harder. Here's the mechanics of it: the pain is handled entirely by the local anesthetic either way — the medicine in the IV is for the mind, not the pain. For longer procedures like full-arch surgery, most patients choose to sleep, simply because it's more comfortable to skip a long appointment than to sit through one. But it's a preference, not a requirement, and it's your call — we'll talk it through at the consultation and plan whichever version suits you.

How much does sedation cost?

In writing, like everything here: IV or oral sedation is quoted in writing after the 3D scan, billed as its own line on your itemized plan — never buried inside another number. Local anesthesia is included with every procedure at no separate charge. Your exact plan and its costs are laid out at the free consultation, which includes a 3D CBCT scan (together a $499 value), and our lending partners can fold sedation into the same monthly plan as your treatment.
