The drive threads up through the hills to I-280, then north to our Geary office in the Richmond District — about forty-five minutes on a normal day. For a rural, low-density town without a specialist nearby, that's the reasonable cost of getting implant work done right the first time.
The in-house lab is what makes the distance sit well. Andy Jain mills the final teeth on-site, so many qualifying single and multiple implant cases finish in roughly a day rather than stringing repeat trips across months. The first visit — consultation plus a 3D CBCT scan valued at $499 — is free, so the long view starts with a clear, no-obligation plan.

Portola Valley sends almost no implant searches yet, so this page is written for the questions the town asks when it calls: the engineering rather than the marketing, how many implants are actually needed, and the honest failure risk. Rural by design, it is forty to fifty-five minutes down 280 to the Geary Boulevard office.
The engineering
A titanium implant is placed into the jaw and the bone grows onto it over the following months; a crown, bridge or full arch is then fixed to it. For a full arch, four to eight implants are angled to use the densest bone, which is why All-on-4 can avoid a graft and why our All-on-8 Robust design uses eight where the bone allows. The free 3D CBCT scan is the drawing; the comparison page sets the designs side by side.
How many implants you actually need
One per missing tooth is not the rule: several teeth in a row are carried by an implant bridge on two implants, $8,000–$11,000 in published California ranges (September 2026), and an arch is carried by four to eight. The scan measures your bone and the plan names the number; a single tooth implant runs about $3,500–$7,500 with its crown in published ranges.
The honest failure risk
Implants can fail, usually early, when the bone does not take to the implant, or later, from infection around it; smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and untreated gum disease raise the risk, and the scan, your health history and the follow-up schedule are how it is managed. The warranty for your chosen materials is written into the plan, and an implant that does fail is handled on the failed-implant page by the surgeon who placed it.

Your bone decides, and the 3D scan is what reads it — not a package chosen in advance. We place as many as the case genuinely requires rather than the fewest that will hold, and the number appears in your written plan with the reasoning behind it before you agree to anything.
What is the honest failure risk?
Implants are highly successful but nothing in medicine is guaranteed, and California law rightly forbids advertising one. Success depends on your health, your bone, your home care, and factors no dentist controls. Your doctor will go through what your particular scan suggests rather than quoting a national average at you.

I recently visited Center for Implant Dentistry after developing an infection around a crowned tooth. My regular dentist wasn't able to treat the problem and referred me to a specialist. A friend who had undergone a bone graft procedure there about a year ago recommended this facility, so I decided to schedule a free consultation. From the moment I arrived, I had a great experience. I met Neel, a very knowledgeable and friendly young gentleman who was easy to talk to. He explained the types of procedures they perform and how they specialize in dental implants and complex dental cases. After asking about my concerns, he quickly took some pictures using their advanced technology. Just a few minutes later, I met Dr. Jain. He took the time to discuss my dental problem and thoroughly explained the recommended treatment plan in a way that was simple and easy to understand. I really appreciated how clearly he explained everything and made sure I understood my options. Then came the biggest surprise! Dr. Jain asked if I wanted to proceed with the treatment that same day. I was shocked because I had only come in for a consultation! Since I was already off work, I decided to take care of the problem right away. Dr. Jain extracted my infected tooth, cleaned out the infection, and placed the implant--all in the same visit! I never expected to have everything done that day, but I was grateful that they were able to address the problem so quickly. I also found the cost reasonable, considering the complexity of the procedure and how quickly they were able to take care of my situation. They accepted my dental insurance and FSA, which helped save me a significant amount of money. Neel provided a detailed treatment plan and explained the costs, including what my insurance would cover. I really appreciated the transparency and the time he took to help me understand the financial side of my treatment. Because it was getting late, they weren't able to finish my temporary crown that day, so I had to return the following day to have it completed. Overall, I'm very grateful for the care I received at Center for Implant Dentistry. From Neel's excellent communication and helpful guidance to Dr. Jain's thorough explanation and treatment, the entire experience was reassuring and efficient. Kudos to all their staff .
