How Much Do Dental Implants Cost in California? (2026 Guide)

The real numbers in California, as of mid-2026

Across California, a complete single-tooth dental implant — the implant post, the abutment connector, and the crown — is commonly quoted between about $3,500 and $7,500. Full-arch fixed teeth (the All-on-4 family) commonly run $20,000 to $35,000 per jaw at national chains and many private offices, with premium zirconia work quoted higher still. Removable implant-supported snap-in dentures typically land between $5,000 and $17,000 per arch. These are market observations, not our prices — and the spread inside each range is the real story.

What about our own fees? Any honest number depends on your anatomy and plan — bone volume, any grafting or sinus work, sedation, and how many teeth are being replaced — so rather than advertise a figure, we put yours in writing: at our Fremont and San Francisco offices, the free consultation includes a free 3D CBCT scan and ends with an itemized, written quote for your specific case. Every figure in this guide is an observed market range, not a quote. See the full breakdown on our Fremont & Bay Area cost page.

Why two quotes for 'the same implant' can be thousands apart

Most sticker shock comes from scope, not greed. One office quotes the implant post alone; the abutment, the crown, the scans, the temporaries, and the extraction each arrive later as line items. Another office quotes the finished tooth. Both called it 'an implant.' Until you see an itemized plan, you cannot compare them — which is why the first question to ask of any quote, anywhere in California, is simply: what exactly is included?

The second driver is structure. An office that mails impressions to a commercial lab pays that lab's margin; an office that flies in a visiting surgeon pays travel; a franchise carries franchise economics. None of that improves your tooth — it just rides along in the price. Offices that own their lab and employ their surgeons remove those layers, which is the main reason equally good clinical work can carry very different invoices.

The Bay Area premium — real, but not inevitable

Bay Area dentistry generally runs above the California average, which itself runs above the national average: rent, wages, and lab costs here are among the highest in the country, and most practices pass them through. Quotes 15–20% above what you'd see in Sacramento or the Central Valley are ordinary — and full-arch zirconia quotes approaching $40,000 per jaw exist in this market.

But the premium is a cost structure, not a law of physics. A practice that owns its building's lab, keeps surgery in-house, and prices per arch rather than per implant can sit dramatically below the regional norm without cutting clinical corners — the same implant brands, the same FDA-cleared zirconia, fewer middlemen. When a Bay Area quote surprises you in either direction, the itemized version will show you why.

What about Mexico and dental tourism?

The math that sends Californians to Tijuana or Los Algodones is real: quoted prices often run half or less of typical U.S. figures, and for straightforward work in well-run clinics, plenty of patients do fine. An honest guide says that plainly.

The risks are practical rather than dramatic: follow-up care lives a border away, revisions and warranty work require more travel, records and materials standards vary between clinics, and if an implant struggles months later, the surgeon who placed it can't see you on Tuesday. Complication care is where tourism savings most often unwind — refitting or replacing failed work at home can cost more than doing it here once. If the Bay Area's usual $25,000-per-arch numbers are what's pushing you south, it's worth knowing that fixed arches exist locally at a figure much closer to the tourism quote — with the lab and the surgeon forty minutes away for the next decade. Compare all three options itemized before you book a flight.

How to compare any two California implant quotes

Ask both offices the same five questions. What exactly does the number include — implant, abutment, crown or arch, scans, temporaries, extractions, sedation? Who places the implant, and who answers for it in five years? Where are the teeth made, and how long from surgery to the final set? What happens — and what does it cost — if something needs adjusting later? And is the price per implant or per outcome, so more support for your bone doesn't read as an upsell?

Any good office can answer all five in writing. If a quote can't survive those questions, the price on it doesn't mean much — and if you'd like a second set of eyes, we'll review a quote you've received elsewhere line by line at a free consultation, including the honest possibility that the other plan is sound. Your financing options are laid out on our financing page.

Still Wondering? Here's What People Ask Next.

What is the cheapest way to get a dental implant in California?

Be careful with that question — the cheapest implant and the cheapest outcome are different purchases. The most reliable savings come from structure, not discounts: offices with in-house labs and owner-surgeons remove middleman margins legitimately. Discount-driven work that skimps on planning, implant count, or materials routinely costs more to repair than doing it properly once. Compare itemized plans, not headline prices.

Does insurance cover dental implants in California?

Rarely in full. Most PPO dental plans treat implants as a major procedure and cap annual benefits around $1,000–$2,000 — genuine help against a single tooth, a small dent in a full arch. Traditional Medicare doesn't cover implants; some Medicare Advantage plans include dental allowances that can contribute. Ask any office to verify your specific benefits in writing before you decide.

Why do full-arch quotes vary from $15,000 to $40,000 in the Bay Area?

Scope, materials, and structure. Some quotes include extractions, sedation, temporaries, and the final zirconia arch; others price those separately. Acrylic final teeth cost less to make than milled zirconia and are sometimes quoted low without saying so. And every outsourced layer — labs, visiting surgeons, franchise costs — adds margin. The itemized version of any quote explains its own number; insist on it.
