Proper Care and Maintenance of Dental Implants

Dental implants need daily care and maintenance just like your natural teeth in order to have long term lasting success. Whether you had a single implant, all on 4 dental implants, or all on 6 dental implants, we recommend the following to keep your new teeth clean and plaque-free.

At Home Care

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, giving attention to all sides of the implants
  • Floss with a Proxabrush (interdental brush) at least twice a day
  • Use a Waterpik at least twice a day, or after every meal, to dislodge food
  • **Don’t miss any of your scheduled check-up or cleaning appointments

The doctors and dental assistants at Center for Implant Dentistry will thoroughly provide you with instructions and demonstrations on how to properly care for your teeth so you can enjoy your smile for a lifetime.

Don’t Miss Your Scheduled Check-Ups and Cleanings

You will have scheduled appointments for check-ups with Dr. Jain or Dr. Gupta every 2 months to do bite checks and check all components attached to the dental implants to ensure proper functioning. Annual x-rays may also be taken. Cleanings will be scheduled every 3-6 months with Dr. Sneha. She may give you recommendations to improve your at home care routine. If we notice any problems with your gum health or your dental implants, we may refer you back to our dental office for further treatment.

What happens if you don’t take care of your implants?

Just like your natural teeth, dental implants can develop problems without consistent daily care. The earliest sign of a problem may begin with bleeding, which is known as mucositis. If caught early, mucositis can be treated if caught early. However, if not taken care of, problems can progress to bone loss, also known as peri-implantitis. Bone loss is not reversible and can lead to removal of the implant if not treated in time. We don’t want this to happen to you, so we highly recommend taking the best care of your new teeth and coming to every appointment scheduled. We want you to enjoy your smile for years to come!

Guide on All on four dental implants

Many people struggle with maintaining dentures, so they don’t like removable dentures. Dental implants are an ideal solution for patients who face problems due to dentures. Getting a full arch of teeth would typically require around six to eight implants for supporting an entire arch of teeth which will be expensive and also time taking. Thanks to the effective solution provided by implant dentistry, we have all on four dental implants.

This procedure has brought a revolution to tooth replacement as it is an easily affordable process as well as time-saving to get a complete set of teeth for the full mouth. The four implants must be placed precisely, two in the front and two implants placed beside them. This option is not suitable for everyone but best for those who want affordable complete mouth restorations.

How much do all on four dental implants cost?

Your budget is one of the most important factors when you decide to get dental care. As this treatment doesn’t require many implants, the cost is not very high. For a full arch with six implants will cost approximately around $17000 to $24000. With less number of implants, all on four implants will cost less and give you an overall positive appearance and better health.

Benefits of all-on-four implants

  • Through implants, the bone in your jaw is preserved so that it stays strong.
  • They are more comfortable than dentures as your teeth get support from solid implants.
  • Implants do not move around while speaking or eating, so you don’t have to be embarrassed about anything; your self-confidence increases.
  • Your aesthetics improve.

Is smoking bad for dental implants?

The answer is YES.

As you are probably aware, smoking is a bad habit not only for the overall health of your body, but also for your oral health. If you are a smoker looking into getting SF dental implants at Center for Implant Dentistry in Fremont, we want to help you understand how smoking affects your chances of having successful dental implant surgery. If you’re going to invest your money and time into a dental implant procedure, we want you to have the best results possible. It starts with you and making the choice to quit smoking overall.

What are the negative effects of smoking with dental implants?

  • Smokers have a high failure rate of dental implants.
  • Smokers who undergo dental implant surgery are more susceptible to bacterial infections.
  • Bone graft success rate is lower for smokers. However, not all dental implant patients require bone grafts.
  • After surgery, smokers have a higher rate of developing peri-implantitis, an infectious disease that causes inflammation of the gum and the bone structure around a dental implant.
  • Nicotine in cigarette smoke reduces blood flow to soft issues, which can make it difficult for the mouth to heal properly post-surgery
  • Cigarette smoke in the mouth damages the salivary glands, increases the risk of developing gum disease, and increases the loss of bone within the jaw.

How can I increase my chances of successful dental implant surgery?

Quit smoking 2 weeks BEFORE surgery. Avoid smoking for two weeks prior to dental implant surgery to help minimize the risk of complications.

Avoid smoking for at least 8 weeks AFTER surgery. While the mouth is healing, you must avoid smoking or you risk causing the titanium implant to not attach successfully to the bone.

At Center for Implant Dentistry, we have had smoking patients have successful dental implant surgeries as long as they stopped smoking for the recommending time periods. For more information or to schedule a FREE consultation with CT scan, please call 510-574-0496.

All-on-four Implants

Restore your smile and get cost-effective oral rehabilitation

We may have a lot of care of our teeth, but they are not invulnerable to decay infections and accidents. It can happen anytime and we may lose our pearly whites or get it altogether damaged. Thanks to all-on-four dental implants that provide a comprehensive solution to tooth loss. Many of us have a false impression that these technologies are expensive, but with better technology, the cost of treatments have not increased. They have reduced.

Let’s see how all-on-four Implants have undercut the expenses and cost of implants.

Number of dental implants required for oral rehabilitation

Traditional implants need 6, 8 or even 10 implants for each jaw to have a complete set of teeth for parents. This equals to 20 implants for both the arches for complete rehabilitation. The expense for rehabilitation would be very high, considering the cost of implants. With all-on-four, only four implants are required to be placed per jaw, so all on 4 implants cost less. This substantially saves a considerable amount of money for implant treatment.

Multiple placement surgeries

In case of the traditional implants, as a large number of implants are required this calls for multiple surgeries which is spread over one or more years. We all know surgeries are expensive and this will hamper our pockets. All-on-four is done only in a single surgery. You can get a complete beautiful smile in a single day with this treatment.

Bone grafting surgery

All-on-four implants avoid a significant expense that is the need for bone grafting surgery. With the traditional procedure, this bone grafting is unavoidable.

Get all on 4 treatment for your oral rehabilitation with us at Center For Implant Dentistry. You can rebuild your confidence with our treatment at a very budgeted price.
